Named after one of the most prevalent fish in the mountain streams of Japan, this is the heaviest rod we currently offer. This 7:3 rod is ideal for landing larger fish (e.g. >14inches). It's the only rod we recommend if you're planning on fishing for bass or larger fish. It's a medium-heavy, and a fast rod as Tenkara rods go. Please note that all Tenkara rods are still relatively slow compared to western fly-rods. Casting feels very precise and powerful. The handle is curved near the bottom, and although a better fit for slightly larger hands, the curvature at the bottom of the handle allows for comfortable gripping by medium hands. Anglers with small hands may prefer the grip on the Ayu, Ebisu or Iwana rods.
These rods have a subdued matte finish, which was chosen for its "camouflage" effect. Most of the gloss has been taken out of these rods to reduce any glare and their visibility to fish in places with more tree cover. For the sake of accuracy the action of these rods has been revised, the Yamame has been reclassified as 7:3 but please note the rod is still labeled as 6:4.
